Forgot your travel adaptor at home? We’ve got you covered – just ask one of our team. If we can’t get our hands on one we’ll point you in the right direction. If you have a device with a USB connector, you will find a couple of USB ports in the power point next to the bed which may come in handy!

Air Conditioning

Each of our rooms features individual reverse cycle air-conditioning with controls located next to the door. To help save energy, the air-conditioning will turn off automatically when you remove your key card from the slot on departure or open the balcony door (if you have one that is)

Airport Shuttle

Alex is conveniently located a stone’s throw from one of the few Connect shuttle services in the CBD that can run you out to the Airport. For more information visit

Alarm - Wake Up Call

If you need some encouragement to get up in the morning, let us be your alarm. Just let us know and we’ll arrange a wake-up call for you.

ATM & Bank

While we don’t have an ATM in the hotel there are a number within a 2 minute walk – the majority being located just down James Street. We can point you in the right direction.

Bar

Here at Alex we don’t do mini bar- we do Maxi-Bar. Join us anytime in our Mezzanine Lounge where you’ll find our honour bar available for your use 24 hours.

Our own restaurant and bar, Shadow Wine Bar & Dining Room is located right next to the hotel, its open 7 days a week from 12midday until late…..you’re more than welcome to charge back to you’re room too.

Barber

Right around the corner is Dandy Barber a one chair Barber in the back of Ware, a tasty little homewares and clothing shop that’s well worth a visit in its own right. Best of all they offer up a free beer or scotch while they do their thing…..

Got a window in your shower? While there is a certain appeal about looking over the city while you’re in the shower, we understand it’s not for everyone! If you find yourself in one of the rooms with a window in the bathroom, you can operate an electric internal blind for a little more privacy….the controls are just by the light switch in the bathroom.

Feeling like a dip in the Indian Ocean? Let us know and we can point in you in the direction to our pick of Perth’s best beaches…..

Beach Towels

If you are heading to the beach we have some beach towels that you are welcome to use…..just ask us and we’ll get you sorted.

Bikes

We think the there’s nothing like exploring a city under pedal power and you may have spotted our fleet of bikes on the way in – they’re there to be borrowed free of charge. We’ve got bike maps and some great spots to cycle in the city that we’d love to share with you.

Breakfast

It’s important to start the day well, a complimentary continental breakfast is served daily in our Mezzanine level Lounge from 6.30am until 10.30am during the week and a little later on the weekends.

Car Rental

We can arrange for Hertz Car Rentals to have a car delivered to the hotel for you – they’ll even collect it once you’re done. Come and see us at reception and we’ll happily arrange a vehicle for you.

Otherwise, all the major rental companies operate in Perth and many have locations nearby.

Perth has a number of car services including Uber that can be pre arranged to whisk you around town. If you’re in need of a car and driver we would be more than happy to arrange a safe and secure car service that suits your needs.

We’re a reasonable bunch when it comes to check out time, officially its 12 midday but if you need a bit more time let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Chemist / Pharmacy

Busy Bee Pharmacy is just across the road on William Street and open 7 days. If its late and you’re in need of a 24 hour pharmacy, Beaufort St 24 Hour Chemist is located about 5 minutes drive away at 647 Beaufort Street, Mt Lawley.

Coffee/ Tea

While we don’t have mini bars or kettles in the room, you’ll find complimentary fresh ground filter coffee, a selection of teas and fresh milk in the Mezzanine Lounge Pantry. Feel free to help yourself at any time of the day or night and we’re completely cool with you taking a cuppa back to your room. Our Lobby Espresso bar is always open, so if you’re craving a great locally roasted coffee or a pot of loose leaf tea come and see us we’ll sort you out.

We love Feedback. If you notice anything or have a kick ass idea that you think would work, let us know. If you have something on your mind but you’d rather not say it to our face or simply left in a rush, we’ll send you a feedback email after your stay.

Fire & Evacuation

We take your safety seriously, and hope you do too. See the round sign on the back of door – read that if the alarm goes off. It’ll remind you where the nearest fire escape is and best way out in the event of an emergency. Along the way you’ll find additional signs telling you where our hotel muster point is located. It’s important to listen out for instructions during an alarm and please listen to any direction given by us, remember we’re your friends and want to look out for you!

Florist

There’s a great little florist close by called Beans and Bunches. They’re open every day except Sundays. If you’re caught short on Sunday, let us know and we can point you towards florists that will help you out. Beans and Bunches- 08 9227 6754, Shop 3 Arcade, 189 William St.

Are you sneaky at Snakes and Ladders? The ‘Man’ at Monopoly or the undefeated Chess Master? Feel free to come down to the Mezz and have a game, with friends or make some new ones.

Golf

If you’re in need of a fix, Wembley Golf course is rated as Perth’s best public course. Head to their website for all you need to know.

Green Spaces

Sometimes you just want to feel grass between your toes, we get that. The nearest parks are Hyde Park and Russel Square. If you are after a bit of a Barbie, Hyde Park is our closest free BBQ spot and also has swings for the kids (no matter how old they are).

We can also put a little picnic together for you, complete with a picnic rug to spread out on and laze away the afternoon…..we just need a little notice, but if you’re keen let us know!

Gym

We don’t have our own gym but we’ve got plenty of stairs. Looking for a bit more? 24 hour Revo Fitness Perth is just a couple of blocks from the hotel at 20 Parker Street, Northbridge.

Guys – we recommend Westons Barber Shop a little way North, down William Street. Book online Westons Barber Shop or call (08) 9228 2692 Ladies – Located a short walk away in the centre of the city is Head Studio. Call 9481 6464 or go online, they’ve even got an in-house barista and serve sangria on Fridays!

Housekeeping

We’ll service your room daily. If you’d rather we didn’t, simply hang out your door sign with the red side facing the corridor and we’ll leave you alone. If you’re happy to reuse your towels (and help save water) let us know by hanging up your towels – that’s our cue to not replace them.

Ice

If the night’s either just getting started or coming to an end and you’re in need of ice, you’ll find ice buckets and ice in the pantry located on the mezzanine…if its running low or a little early in the day for most, let one of us know and we’ll get some for you!

Iron and Ironing Board

You’ll find a cupboard with irons and ironing boards on every floor, just have a look have down the corridor, opposite the rooms ending in 10. When you’re done, just leave it outside your door.

Internet

Wifi is free and all around you. Make sure you get the password from us before you jump onto the Alex wireless.

Laundry & Dry Cleaning

Our friends at Broadway Dry Cleaners have been in the game for decades and are tried and tested. Available Monday to Friday, simply drop off your laundry in the bag provided, together with your completed laundry docket at reception by 9am for a same day service.

If you are more a do it yourself kind of person, then there is a do it yourself laundrette next to the Globe Backpackers on 561 Wellington Street, near the corner of Queen St about 5 minutes walk away.

Lobby & Mezzanine Lounge

The focal point of the hotel stretches across the two levels and should be regarded as your home away from home. Whether it’s a coffee or a glass of wine; to relax or to work, the space is yours to make your own and we’ll always be on hand for a chat or to offer directions to our favourite haunts.

Lost and Found

For any personal items that may have been misplaced, please let us know at reception.

Luggage Storage

If you’re checking out and don’t feel like lugging your bags around for the day, you can leave them with us. Just drop them off on departure and we’ll securely store them until our final goodbye.

A hotel should be like a home, so there’s no need to hide away in your room if you don’t want to. Our living spaces are there for you and our Mezzanine lounge is stocked with a great selection of craft beer, local wines and spirits to quench your thirst. An honour bar operates from the pantry during the day to help yourself from and in the evenings we’ll be more than happy to mix up a little something special for you.

Parking

While we don’t have our own parking, if you’ve got a car there are a number of paid parking facilities close by. Click here for details of all the car parks close to the hotel. The most convenient Parking is the State Library car park, off Francis Street just next door. Just remember not all the car parks are open 24 hours, so if you need to get in late or out early please check before parking. If in doubt, let us know and we can point you in the right direction.

Pillows

Depending if you like soft and fluffy or something a little more firm, on your bed you’ll find two different types of pillows; 2 soft down pillows and 2 hypo-allergenic.

We do have a number of extra firm pillows available upon request, please let us know if you would like one.

The nearest Australia Post Office is located at 45 Francis Street, just around the corner.

Public Transport

The lovely people at TransPerth operate our public transport, and for those who don’t know, all the buses are FREE (yey!) within the CBD. The CAT buses operate on 4 different routes and are also completely free. We have a variety of maps at reception that list their stops and we can also help you if you have any questions about getting out and about.

  • For the techy ones – TransPerth have developed a really useful app which can help you get from A to B as well as having a great route planner on their website.
  • If you around for a while, why not pick up a TransPerth Smart Rider Card from the convenience store across from the hotel. You can top them up online, at certain stores or on the buses themselves, and get you a discounted rate on your trips.

Reception

Whatever the time of day, we’re here for you. Our reception is manned 24 hours a day – come some hi if you can’t sleep and dont worry if you find yourself caught outside our gate late at night, just press the intercom and we’ll open up.

Record Player

We have a lovely record player in the Mezz, for your enjoyment, please feel free to put on an old classic, grab a wine from the honor bar and relax with a book.

Restaurant

With over 20 wines bar the glass and close to 300 on the list, Shadow Wine Bar is perfect for drop in drinks or something a little more serious – its open everyday from 12pm until late, with the kitchen open at all hours. Reservations are recommended for dinner, you can call direct from the in-room phone or just ask us and we’ll help out.

Safe deposit boxes are located next to reception. Please let us know if you would like to keep any valuables secure.

Safety & Security

We’re here to look after you…. for your safety and security the front gate of the hotel is locked each night – your room key will let you back in and there is an intercom just in case. Please take care of any valuables during your stay, safety deposit boxes are available for your use on the ground floor. It is important that you take the time to review the evacuation procedures on the back of the door and in the event of an alarm, please follow the instructions provided.

Shadow Wine Bar & Dining

Open every day from midday until late, Shadow Wine Bar offers an extensive wine list, a great bar snack selection and a modern European dining room menu for something a little more. If on the weekends you’re in a need of a hot breakfast or simply happened to sleep in and miss out on breakfast at Alex, pop into Shadow to enjoy their delicious brunch from 10am to 2pm. Smoking

We love fresh air and hope you do too. To ensure it stays that way for everyone, the hotel is completely non-smoking, including the balconies. Thanks for understanding.

We know you’ve been working too hard; you need a nice relaxing massage to treat yourself. There a number of fantastic day spas very close to us at Alex but here are the two that are without doubt our favourites…

  • Bodhi J is a hidden away luxurious gem, with all organic and natural products used for their treatments. Their Spa Journeys are a little slice of heaven and they even offer couple’s retreats too….
  • Como Shambhala is located in the beautifully restored State Buildings in the centre of the City. They offer a wide range of specialty treatments that will make you feel like the most precious thing on earth!

Supermarket

The closest big supermarket is just a couple of minutes walk from the hotel, click here for directions to Woolworths in Murray St in Perth CBD. Its open 8am – 9pm Monday-Friday, 8am – 5pm Saturday and 11am – 5pm on Sunday.

Otherwise there a couple of convenience stores located on William and James Streets….just ask us a recption and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Swimming Pool

Love going for a splash? Fresh from hosting the 1962 Perth Commonwealth Games, our friends at Beatty Park have pretty special facilities, with indoor and outdoor lane pools, as well as a leisure pool and water slides for the kids. So grab your bathers and head over to 220 Vincent Street…..ask us for a beach towel if you need one!

Taxis

While there are plenty of taxis in Perth, hailing one from the street is not always that easy. We recommend pre-ordering one – you are welcome to book one yourself using your phone in your room (with the pre-set button that says ‘taxi’), or alternatively we can book one for you. If you have a lot of luggage or a lot of people, make sure you ask for a maxi taxi.

For outside lines, dial 0 If you want to call room to room, simply dial the room number you want to contact eg for room 504, dial 504.

  • Each room also has a direct line so your loved ones, business clients or partners in crime can call you directly in your room – just check the number on the phone in your room.
  • We’ve kept phone rates fair and reasonable. All local and national landline calls are free….no matter how long you chat for.
  • Australian mobile calls are charged at 15c per minute. For other numbers, including international, call rates are most likely better than your mobile phone’s….a full list of international call rates are available from reception.

Television & Streaming

Bit of a tech-head? Couldn’t care less and just want to watch the news? Our TVs pretty much do it all. You can watch any of the ‘normal’ channels you want, catch a movie from our in-house library or stream direct from your own device. The best part of it is all free!

To connect your phone, tablet or laptop,  first download the ‘Samsung Smart View 2.0′ app. Connect your device to your personal TV wifi (which will be your room number). Set your TV to ‘pairing’. Then follow the instructions. Easy.

Tennis Courts

Fancy hitting a ball around? Tennis Central has 35 courts to choose from, and with grass and synthetic surfaces to choose from and the rates are pretty nice. Left your racket at home? Dog ran off with your last tennis ball? No dramas, you can hire it all there. Oh and it’s only a 1.5km walk away

We are a multi-cultural bunch, a bit like our city itself.
