Our boutique hotel is a labour of love, independently owned and operated by four local families, who are deeply involved in the worlds of brewing, winemaking, distilling, coffee roasting, breadmaking and dining. Bread in Common
Bread in Common is a Fremantle bakery and restaurant known for its artisanal bread and fresh, seasonal dishes. As a local staple in the heart of the West End in Freo, Bread in Common embraces traditional bread making methods and sources fresh local ingredients to serve up some delicious dishes.
Coogee Common
Coogee Common is a farm-to-table restaurant located in coastal Coogee. The menus at Coogee Common are carefully crafted around the extensive gardens located on site, which are harvested on a daily basis. Diners can indulge in seasonal farm-to-table creations, which are served alongside Bread in Common’s woodfired breads. In the case that certain ingredients cannot be farmed on site, Coogee Common sources them from other local and sustainable producers who share their commitment to clean and ethical food production, and high quality seasonal ingredients.
In addition to food, Coogee Common has a diverse range of cocktails and non-alcoholic beverage options using fresh botanicals sourced directly from the garden. The wine selection primarily consists of local and small-batch options, and there is a rotation of locally brewed beers always available.
Gordon St Garage
This iconic venue, located in the heart of West Perth (a short walk from the Alex Hotel in Northbridge), boasts a stunning industrial setting and a menu that reflects their passion for quality coffee, delicious meals, and carefully curated wines. A perfect spot for a leisurely brunch or an intimate dinner, Gordon St Garage continues to be a popular food destination in Perth.
Little Gordon Street
Just across the street, you’ll find Little Gordon Street, known as the little sister of Gordon St Garage. Serving up a delicious range of baked goods from Common Bakery and exceptional coffee from Mano a Mano, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a hot cup of coffee or a bite to eat. Visitors can enjoy house-made toasties, freshly baked pastries, or a single origin coffee from the window.
Shadow Wine Bar
Shadow Wine Bar and Dining Room is situated just around the corner from the Alex Hotel. Open until late, Shadow is a haven to escape the bustle of Northbridge and relax into classic Italian fare, cocktails and a carefully curated wine list.
Wildflower Restaurant
Located on the rooftop of COMO The Treasury, this award-winning restaurant showcases the best of Western Australia’s native ingredients through an innovative and ever-evolving menu. With panoramic views of the city and Swan River, Wildflower provides a dining experience that combines stunning views with unforgettable culinary creations.
Como Shambhala Urban Escape
COMO Shambhala Urban Escape is a day spa and wellness centre located at COMO The Treasury offering holistic treatments that merge eastern and western healing practices and promote overall well-being. Stormflower Vineyard, with its picturesque vineyards in Margaret River, produces elegant and complex organic wines that are harvested and made onsite. The cellar door is a relaxed, understated, natural space in which to sit back and enjoy our wines and the surroundings. . If you’re not planning on taking a trip down south, you can try a selection of Stormflower wines at Shadow Wine Bar, or from the comfort of the Alex Hotel.
White Elephant Cafe
White Elephant Cafe is the perfect spot for those looking for a relaxed beachside venue for breakfast, lunch or coffee with a view. Situated overlooking the famous Surfers Point, the cafe offers stunning coastal views that stretch from the breathtaking Gnarabup Beach.White Elephant’s coffee is locally sourced and roasted by Margaret River Roasting Company, another local favourite.
Yarri Restaurant and Bar
Yarri, nestled in the city centre of Dunsborough, is renowned for its culinary excellence. By collaborating with the specialist growers, farmers, vignerons, distillers, fishermen, butchers, and cheesemakers of the region, the menu serves as a vibrant celebration of their collective passion and commitment to exceptional food. Alex Hotel proudly serves up delicious coffee by local coffee roasters Mano a Mano, where guests can enjoy a freshly brewed cup every morning at breakfast.
Recognising the importance of showcasing every aspect of the coffee process and the contributions of everyone involved, Mano a Mano embarked on a mission to provide exceptional coffee experiences.
With a commitment to delivering some of the finest single origins and blends in Perth, Mano a Mano aims to elevate the quality of coffee enjoyed at home or out and about. Their selection includes a rotating range of single origins for espresso and filter, ensuring freshness and variety every 4-6 weeks.
Mano a Mano coffee can be found at Bread in Common, Coogee Common, Gordon St. Garage, and Little Gordon Street.
Boatrocker Beers & Hippocampus Spirits
Boatrocker Beers is a brewery known for their creativity and unwavering commitment to making stellar brews that will satisfy the tastes of any beer lover. If spirits are more to your liking, we’d recommend looking out for Hippocampus Spirits, a boutique distillery founded by the owners of the Alex Hotel. They specialise in small-batch production and take great care in capturing the true essence of Australian botanicals in their meticulously crafted gin and vodka.
Lost and Grounded Bristol
Completing our lineup of producers and friends is Lost and Grounded Brewery, Bristol, a UK venture. Established in July 2016, Lost and Grounded showcases a passion and dedication in creating a diverse range of beers that harmoniously blend the finest German precision with distinctive Belgian brewing traditions. Their creations are a testament to their drive for brewing excellence and pushing the boundaries of innovation. Lost and Grounded is all about delivering top quality beers all whilst bringing a fresh twist to the art of brewing.
